Sweet Dreams

I never thought the day would come when both boys would nap at the same time and for about the same amount of time. PHEW!!! We did it! After months of getting P on a schedule, he finally realized that napping is an okay thing and that he would give in and just do it. EVERYONE is so much happier.

Last week, we had to go somewhere and not one noise was coming from either of their rooms. So, I went in to wake them and this is what I found. We ended up having to skip where we were going, because I was NOT about to wake them. Was I complaining? Not in the least. Hopefully, the two precious boys are sleeping thru a very loud thunderstorm right now (although I would not be surprised if the lightning and thunder wakes one or both)!

Happy Monday!

Happy Father's Day

A very special shout out to my Dad and to Jason for being such important role models in my life and C and P's life. Campbell, Parker, and I are so fortunate to have you all as dads and we couldn't have asked for anything better. You give of yourselves without hesitation and love us unconditionally. We will forever be thankful for everything you do for us and we love you.

Also, Happy Father's Day to my father-in-law, brothers-in-law, and 2 brothers. You ALL are wonderful men and I hope you have a wonderful day!

28 days and counting...

until Parker's 1st birthday. I cannot believe how fast this year has gone. It goes so much faster on the 2nd kiddo, not as much time to sit around and relish in every "first." The past few weeks, Parker has taken off. He was just army crawling 2 weeks ago and now he's on knees and hands and pulling up on everything. He's a complete wild man. Everything Campbell is playing with, Parker wants and the same for Campbell. He's now decided that Parker's toys (his old ones) are way cooler than the big kid toys. I am beginning to play referee more and more and know that it won't end for a LONG time.

We left the boys with my in-laws this weekend and went to Long Island for a wedding. The weekend was fabulous, and even included a day and night in the Hamptons. Could it get any better? For two days, I hung up my "mom" hat and was a real adult for 48 hours. Then back on Sunday and the glass slipper was off and the mom hat was back on. I wouldn't trade it for anything, but it sure was nice to have some time with Jason and our great friends.

Hope everyone is having a great week. Happy Hump Day!

Parker...10 months

I thought I was going to be on the ball and post Parker's 10 month picture earlier this month, but, well - I didn't. :) The days just seem to be going so fast and with summer here, I know they'll go even faster. We are looking forward to a fun summer filled with tons of pool time, a trip to NC and Colorado in July and the beach in August. And of course, in between all of that, we will celebrate the little guy's 1st birthday!

Happy Memorial Day!

I had a hard time finding similar pictures of the boys, so these will have to do.

Remembering a wonderful woman

Last week, we lost one of the most wonderful women in the world - Edna Mae Williams (or as I called her "Na-Na"). Edna joined our family when I was 1 and she instantly became another role model to me. Edna did not just work for my family, she was the fill-in mom when need be. If Mom and Dad were out of town, Edna was there to pick me up from school, take care of me when I was sick (and that was a lot), and to just listen to whatever problems I had going on at the time. Edna became a dear friend, sister, mom, and grandmother to me and my entire family. Even to my close friends growing up. There was not one person who didn't love and adore Edna the way we did.

My heart is heavy as I write this because I just always thought that Edna was going to live forever. I never imagined my life without her. She was someone with a deep faith and I know she would not want me to be sad but to be happy about the life I had with her. She would probably be telling me not to be upset because she's gone on to be in a better place. She always told me that she looked forward to seeing her parents again one day. I hope she has had that reunion and lives happily in eternal rest.

There are so many memories I have of Edna and I hope I can capture some of them here.

1. Reading to me. I'll never forget sitting on her lap as a little child - in a very small wicker rocker - and listening to her read "Goodnight Moon." She then would sing Amazing Grace until I would fall asleep.

2. Taking me on the streetcar downtown and eating lunch at McDonald's on Canal Street.

3. Taking me to her house for lunch.

4. Fried Chicken and Mashed Potatoes - her signature meal.

5. When I got my first job out of college, she'd make a hot dog almost everyday, knowing that I would come to my parents house for lunch.

6. Her endless amount of love for my mom when she was going thru chemo for ovarian cancer.

7. When my sister passed away, Edna just showed up at our house with her suitcase in hand. She said she'd stay at our house as long as we wanted her to. That night, she stayed in my room with me to make sure I was okay.

8. Sitting in the front pew at my wedding. Edna was like a grandmother to me and I wouldn't have had it any other way!

9. Attending my high school graduation and so many other events and festivities in my life.

10. Being at my baby shower when I was pregnant with Campbell.

11. Meeting Campbell for the first time. The smile on her face was priceless! I'm sorry she'll never meet Parker, but he will at least have another angel watching over him.

So, Edna, I will miss you and forever thank you for the endless hours you spent loving me, taking care of me, listening to me, and most of all being a dear friend. I am blessed to have had you in my life. Love Always, Your baby.

What a fun weekend!

This weekend, we went to Charlottesville for a wedding. Gordon is one of Jason's fraternity brothers, so as you can imagine...a good time was had by all. The wedding was gorgeous - out on a farm in Scottsville (20 minutes outside of C'ville). Awesome band, fabulous food, and tons of dancing. My body was not loving me today. It had a delayed reaction and caused me to be sure the advil was close by!!! I guess I'm getting old :).

During the day on Saturday, we had our first family portrait done. One of Jason's best friends from Lynchburg has become a photographer in C'ville and we had her take pictures of the Spence family. It was so special to have Brook take the photos. Below are just a few and I will be sure to send the link out - with all of the others - as soon as I have it.
